About Ta Xua
Ta Xua is a mountain range in the Bac Yen district in Son La province, northern Vietnam, 240 km from Hanoi. This mountain range forms a natural border between the two provinces of Son La and Yen Bai. At the highest point of 2865 meters, the Ta Xua peak is the tenth highest peak in Vietnam. The three most important peaks form a line that looks like the back of a dinosaur. It is a real off the beaten track destination. Few or no foreign tourists come here. This is partly because it is so remote. The nearest place is the non-touristy Moc Chau, 85 kilometers away.

What to do at Ta Xua ?
Trekking in Ta Xua is undoubtedly a challenge, but thanks to new roads it has become a lot easier. There are now new trails that run fairly close to one of the mountain peaks. Ta Xua is known for its phenomenon around the mountains: the formation of thick and shadowy Opacus clouds, making it look like you’re in heaven.Getting up on a cold morning in Ta Xua is great when the sun comes up with a huge sea of fluffy clouds right in front of your eyes. All around the mountains you will see a floating ocean of clouds. After about half an hour of climbing in the cold of the mountainous area, you arrive for what you came for.
If you plan to see Ta Xua in the morning with sunrise, make sure you are on the mountain in the evening. There are a number of homestays in the area where you can spend the night.
The best time to visit Ta Xua?
The best time to visit Ta Xua is from December to March when the weather is good to see clouds hanging. The downy clouds look the best in these months and especially during the sunrise.

What to eat at Ta Xua?
Ta Xua is the home of the Hmong people nowadays. A long time ago, they were nomads who loved to inhabit mountaintops. That’s why the foods mostly are the poultry they herd in a short time or wild animals. These make their cuisine quite simple, and the method ways mostly are boiling and grilling. However, there are a few things you must try in Ta Xua. They are

bamboo shoot pickles (gathering at a mountain over 1,800 meters).
Besides, you can try sturgeon and salmon at a farm on the way to Xim Vang. But they are not available at all times.
It’s like many other Northwest destinations in Vietnam. When it comes to Northwest travel, what to expect should be local touches, adventures, and breath-taking scenes rather than refined cuisine experiences.
Where to stay at Ta Xua?
As a new gem in the Northwest, Ta Xua has very limited options for accommodation for foreign travelers. There are many homestays in the center. But they are focused on Vietnamese tourists or adventure lovers with a tight budget. All of them are standard, of average quality, and quite low in price.

However, as travel consultants, I have to say that their services are very limited. What you can expect is cleanness, a private bathroom, a lovely setup bungalow. Please note that all of the lodges are located on the hills. Thus, they are not quite convenient if you like to discover the surrounding area.
