The best time to visit Moc Chau

With the typical highland terrain, the climate in Moc Chau is almost cool and pleasant all year round. There are several occasions of the year when you can truly enjoy the unique beauty of Moc Chau , according to the seasons.

Moc Chau in January, February : the season of peach blossoms and plum blossoms

There is nothing more awesome than peering down at the majestic landscapes of the plateau with the light pink of peach flower, green of the mountains, white of clouds, and blue of sky. 

When the weather starts to warm up, the plum orchards in Moc Chau, flowering buds start popping up all mountain, creating a landscape lyrical, poetic and romantic. 

Moc Chau in March, April : this is the time when white orchids bloom. In addition, on March 26, there is also Het Cha (Hết Chá) festival of the Thai (Thái) people.

Apart from the white orchids season, March is also the time to celebrate ‘Het Cha’ ( Hết Chá) festival, which is held annually from 23rd to 26th by Thai (Thái) ethnic people. People participate in the festival to strengthen the solidarity of residents and to express their respect to the doctors who cured them of sickness.

The best time to visit Moc Chau is from October to December when you will be overwhelmed by the cauliflower fields and valleys in blossom.

Moc Chau Tea Hills

Moc Chau has many heart-shaped hills for you to explore. Taiwan’s tea plantations (nearest to Moc Chau  ( Mộc Châu) town about 10 km), Tan Lap ( Tân Lập) tea hills and Moc Suong  ( Mộc Sương) hill are the tourist attractions. Looking from above, the tea hill bunches into a romantic heart. The area of the tea is quite large, so any pictures taken here are also green.

Loong Luong village

Long Luong is located on the No 6 National Highway. Standing on the high of the pass, you can see the small houses under the valley. In the peak season, the valley is full of white of plum and apricot blossoming, the pink of peach flowers. The road to the village is quite small with many rocks, but the two sides are filled by fragrant flowers that the scene becomes fascinated people.

Chimi Farm 

Not only in Da Lat, but people in Moc Chau also grow strawberries. Situated about one kilometer from Ban Ang Ecotourism Village, you can visit strawberry gardens and join in fruit picking enjoy on the spot.

Happy Land

Moc Chau Happy Land is a tourist area located in Lung village, Muong Sang ( Mường Sang) commune. It is built on five hectares of land with many beautiful spots for photography such as the heart-shaped garden, windmill, colorful flower garden, and more. This place also has accommodation and food services for visitors to rest and enjoy the peaceful life in Moc Chau.

 Ba Phach’s cauliflower garden

Ba Phach Village must be the most iconic tribal village in Moc Chau Plateau, offering the fully beauty of the land and local culture here. Ba Phach Village is well-known for spectacular sights of plump and peach flowers blooming in spring time and cauliflower blooming from November to December. The village is home to two ethnic groups residing here – Thai people and H’mong people with their richness of cultural customs and traditions.

Dai Yem waterfall

Dai Yem ( Dải Yếm) Waterfall is also known as Lady Waterfall (Thác Nàng) or Ban Vat ( Ban Vạt) Waterfall. The name Dai Yem ( Dải Yếm) derives from the tale that the fall is the shirt of the lady who rescues the man from the raging flood. The waterfall lies 3 kilometers away from Moc Chau ( Mộc Châu) Farm, at Muong Sang ( Mường Sang) commune, with an easy accessible. Dai Yem ( Dải Yếm) is a beautiful 2-level with a drop at a height of 50m, with many water tails. The waterfall is especially spectacular in the rainy season between April and September.

Pha Luong peak

On the height of 2000m, Pha Luong Peak offers majestic scenery of Lao-Vietnam border with primitive forest and mystic mountain backdrop. The road to the mountaintop takes you about 3 hours on steep slopes, with a local porter’s assistance. When you’re on the top, don’t forget to enjoy the bare board rock intruding out to the air. This is indeed one of the coolest site to take picture in Vietnam with the whole view of mountains and clouds behind your back.

 S-shaped road

This road belongs to Van Ho district on the way from Hanoi to Moc Chau. It is very familiar with backpackers. Almost of people crossing over must stop here to admire the bewitching curve that is flexible, and gender with the S-shaped.

Chieng Khoa waterfall

Chieng Khoa Waterfall is also known as Cloud Waterfall, which is associated with the legend of the Ban Flower ên Bản- Xen Mường Festival of the local people. This waterfall has not been exploited for tourism, so still quite wild and natural. You will be admiring the beauty of the waterfall like a white cloud around the valley with white foam to create the light fuzzy charm fog.

What to eat at Moc Chau?

Calf meat (Bê chao)

Soft sweet calf meat “chao” by hot oil in the pan, letting out the most irresistible taste that entrances anyone passing by. You can easily catch sight of “Be chao” restaurants along the National Road 6 (Quốc lộ 6), Tiểu Khu Chiềng Đi or Công Trường Mộc Châu town (Moc Chau Site Town). .

Grilled Stream Fish (Cá suối nướng)

One merit of Grilled Stream Fish is that you can eat both the meat and the bone. In addition, the Grilled Fish is tasty with the company of spicy fish sauce (mắm tỏi ớt) or chili sauce. It is highly recommended to eat Grilled Stream Fish with sticky rice, which never fails to amaze the diner.

Dried Buffalo Meat ( Thịt Trâu Gác Bếp)

The “leader” of Moc Chau’s specialties, dried buffalo meat  originally of Thai tribe, must never be missed in Moc Chau’s big events such as Tet Holiday or Wedding. Few have left Moc Chau without buying a little dried buffalo meat for souvenir.

Salmon

Nobody knows when people in Moc Chau ( Mộc Châu)  love eating salmon, but it will be with great regret that you don’t experience this culinary delight for your Vietnam package tour to the mountainous region. The cold weather of that land is considered as a catalyst for enhancing the dish’s value. You will feel warmer when savoring it with wasabi or mustard sauce.

Nậm pịa

This is a specialty of Thai people. The main ingredients of this dish are offal including stomach, blood, heart, liver heart, guts … and viscous water from inside the intestines of cows, goats and buffalo, horse called “Pia”, which is simmered.

Cai Meo vegetable

As simple as his town, Cai Meo ( Cải Mèo) is a one-ingredient dish featuring Cai Meo ( Cải Mèo). Rest assured since it won’t disappoint you with numerous tastes your tastebuds will feel with only a bite of it. A little bitter at first but it will pass soon, leaving a clear sweetness in your mouth. Although Cai Meo ( Cải Mèo)  Moc Chau can be used to add in hotpot, fried dish, chicken, its favorite style is the easy boiling and then served with a bowl of soy sauce or fish sauce.

Moc Chau ( Mộc Châu) is one of the most vibrant hubs for minorities in Vietnam. Each tribe represents an exquisite color that it is proud of.
